This image was created to help heal and bring more joy into our lives. All the fires and various conflicts throughout the world were bringing my energies down. But mostly, it was mom's health that was beginning to falter, and sunflowers 🌻 are one of mom's favorite flowers, and it is for many other people to include myself.
I got to share this with mom before she transitioned. I told her that I love to see what comes out of the place I didn't plan to paint. Meaning that the negative space is artfully interesting to me. With this said, the white areas of this piece were not planned and the way I see it as somewhat of a self-portrait with me laying in a field of sunflowers looking up at an angle watching over me. These and the heart just came out of the ethers. Not knowing mom would be an angel so soon.
Mom got to touch and feel the textures of the sunflowers as I added iridescent paint around the sunflowers.
I dedicate this and the last painting of a crane forthcoming to Mom.
